HEIDI CHERMAK - INSTRUCTOR
Heidi brings over 35 years of dance experience, having danced on and off since the age of five. Following high school, Heidi honed her craft at Topeka Ballet, Inc., where she studied for three years and was an inaugural member of the Topeka Ballet Ensemble. Her diverse dance background includes studio and competition dance, being a member of her school’s dance team, and choreographing for theater performances at her alma mater.
Heidi’s classes are appreciated for their engaging and relatable content. She believes in making dance concepts accessible by connecting them to dancers' interests and creating a fun and educational environment. Her area of skillfulness lies in Hip Hop and Jazz Funk, where she excels in teaching the ‘why’ behind technique, ensuring the lessons resonate with her students.
Outside of dance, Heidi works as a Physician Liaison, leveraging her background as a Radiologic Technologist to educate and support physicians regarding electronic health records. She actively participates as an East Area Representative for the Kansas Society of Radiologic Technologists, serves on the Board of Directors for the WRHS Alumni Association, and volunteers at Planet Comicon Kansas City. In her personal time, Heidi enjoys traveling, attending KC Royals games, crafting, playing with LEGO, and spending time with her family.
Guided by the motto, "There is nothing more beautiful than to witness others being unapologetically themselves and sharing love while doing so," Heidi also embraces her mother’s wisdom that “being weird is never a bad thing.” She passionately believes in the transformative power of dance, which has shaped her self-perception and provided a foundation for personal growth. Dance, for Heidi, is about self-expression and learning from every dancer around her. She’s witnessed how dance has offered a sense of safety and support to those facing challenges, enabling them to shine both as dancers and as individuals.
CARLY MALSOM - OWNER & INSTRUCTOR
Carly Malsom brings four decades of dance experience and over 20 years of teaching to her role as an instructor. Her extensive training across multiple dance styles and genres equips her with a broad and deep understanding of the art form.
Dancers are drawn to Carly's classes for the high-quality education, encouragement, and the challenge to push their limits. Despite her vast experience, Carly maintains a humble approach, viewing herself as a perpetual student of dance, dedicated to teaching, connecting, and communicating effectively with her students.
Outside the studio, Carly’s life still revolves around dance, as she continuously studies and discusses it. She also enjoys reading and spending quality time with her family. Her personal motto, “The way you do anything is the way you do everything,” reflects her commitment to excellence in all aspects of life.
Carly firmly believes in the transformative power of dance. With firsthand experience and countless observations, she knows that dance profoundly changes lives. Beyond the technical skills, dance offers a holistic way of learning and navigating through life, impacting dancers, their families and their community. For Carly, the life-changing potential of dance is an undeniable truth.
HADLEY MALSOM - INSTRUCTOR
Having danced with NOBO from the very beginning, Hadley proudly embraces her role as an original member. With a dance background spanning four years and a lifelong passion since the age of three, Hadley brings a wealth of enthusiasm to her second year of teaching. She currently trains with the hip hop company iPush and is eagerly anticipating the new dance season.
Hadley's classes are known for their high energy and fun atmosphere, ensuring that dancers remain engaged and on their toes. She thrives in hip hop and contemporary, her strongest styles, and brings her enthusiasm to create impactful and exciting lessons.
Outside the studio, Hadley’s life still revolves around dance, but she also enjoys watching and playing sports, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with friends and family. Guided by the mottos "If you’ve reached the top, build a bigger mountain," and "You only live once, so take risks and make memories," Hadley believes in the transformative power of dance. She credits dance with adding deeper meaning to her life and imparting valuable lessons. Witnessing dance boost others' confidence and happiness reaffirms her belief in its life-changing potential.
KRYSTAL MARKHAM - INSTRUCTOR
Krystal's dance journey began at the age of three, immersing herself in various dance styles until her high school graduation. During her college years, Krystal showcased her talent with the Koyote Girls, performing for the indoor football team in Topeka. With a decade of teaching experience, she continues to cherish every moment, always eager to enhance her skills by taking dance classes from others to bring fresh perspectives to her students.
Known for her engaging classes, Krystal creates an environment where fun and learning go hand in hand. Her upbeat and kind personality motivates dancers to give their best effort while enjoying the process. Although experienced in all styles, tap dance is Krystal's area of expertise and passion. She revels in the rhythmic complexity of tap, likening it to playing an instrument with one's feet, and loves the endless creative possibilities it offers.
Outside the dance studio, Krystal is an Elementary Music Teacher at McClure Elementary, and her life revolves around her family, including her supportive spouse and three wonderful children. Her motto, "Be Kind to Everyone," reflects her commitment to fostering kindness in all relationships, recognizing the positive impact it has on today's world.
Krystal firmly believes in the transformative power of dance. She sees dance as a medium that not only promotes self-acceptance and pride but also builds lifelong relationships and equips dancers with invaluable life skills that extend beyond the studio.
SUSAN MCMILLAN - INSTRUCTOR
Susan brings over 15 years of dedicated dance education experience to our faculty, starting with teaching in high school and culminating in degrees including a B.A. in Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts for Children, as well as an MAT in Elementary and Special Education.
Specializing in classical ballet and nurturing younger dancers, Susan creates an engaging and enjoyable learning environment where students not only develop technical proficiency and learn dance terminology but also discover the transformative power of movement.
Beyond the studio, Susan is passionate about special education, serving as a teacher, and enjoys spending quality time with her husband Loren and son Huxley.
With a personal motto of “If you can dream it, you can do it” by Walt Disney, Susan firmly believes in dance as a catalyst for personal growth and has seen firsthand its ability to empower individuals and foster self-expression.
ALYSSA SCHULTZ - INSTRUCTOR
Alyssa’s dance journey began in parent-tot classes, sparking a lifelong passion for movement and expression. With comprehensive training across all dance styles, primarily honed at Dance Expressions, she brings a wealth of experience to her role as an instructor. Now entering her 14th year of teaching, Alyssa remains committed to ongoing education by participating in dance classes to refine her skills. Known for creating a welcoming environment, she ensures that every dancer in her class feels a strong sense of community and belonging.
Alyssa’s classes are characterized by their inclusivity and adaptability, where dancers of all abilities can thrive. Her positive energy and engaging teaching style not only captivate her students but also foster meaningful connections with their families. Specializing in jazz and excelling with young children, Alyssa's vibrant approach keeps her students excited and involved, making each class a dynamic experience.
Beyond the dance studio, Alyssa serves as a school social worker at Seaman High School and coaches the Auxiliary Dance Team. Her personal life is enriched by time spent with family and friends. Guided by the motto "Be Bold," Alyssa firmly believes in dance's transformative power, a belief rooted in her own life-changing experiences with dance. She has witnessed firsthand how the supportive dance community can profoundly impact others.
